What is
ASPIE?
ASPIE of Houston is a parent and professional
support group serving the Greater Houston area that was created to
provide information sharing and support to the many families and
professionals who live and work with individuals with
Asperger's Syndrome.
In order to meet member support needs, ASPIE now offers three additional
support groups: ASPIE Adults, ASPIE Teens and ASPIE Siblings.
All groups meet the second Thursday of each month at 7:00 pm at Williams
Trace Baptist Church in Sugar Land, TX.
Our goal is to foster awareness and understanding of this unique
condition and to support, assist and help educate the many people who
are connected in some way to AS. We hope to serve as a first-line
resource for anyone needing up-to-date and accurate information on
Asperger's Syndrome and the many issues that surround it.
At each
monthly ASPIE meeting, speakers share information on a variety of
Asperger's-related topics. In addition, time is devoted to
questions and answers and networking with other parents and
professionals. (See
Schedule page for
future speakers/topics)
We invite parents, family-members, friends, teachers, school-based
therapists, private practitioners, physicians and anyone else who might
impact the life of an individual with Asperger's Syndrome to attend our
monthly meetings and become a member of ASPIE.

If you do not currently teach a child
with Asperger's Syndrome you probably
will very soon!
Statistics now show that
1 in 150
individuals has an
autism spectrum disorder like Asperger's
Syndrome. This diagnosis has
become more common than pediatric
cancer, diabetes, and AIDS combined. It
occurs in all racial, ethnic, and social
groups and is four times more likely to
strike boys than girls. By law,
these students must be mainstreamed in
general education classes to the maximum
extent possible. Research has
proven that AS students think and learn
differently and as a result, can
sometimes present unique and challenging
classroom behaviors. Click on

AS students become successful in the
classroom. This page has numerous
articles with practical and proven
techniques for teachers of students with
Asperger's Syndrome.
